You can also take cuttings in October, when the Clematis is in flower, allowing you to determine the sex of the plants. Stem cuttings with a node at both the base and the top are the most successful. You can also use tip and internodal cuttings. Cuttings from wild plants have proved to be difficult to root. It may be easier from garden-grown plants.
