Propagation methods |
Cuttings Seed
Propagation is usually by seed. You can transplant, as long as you take a large root ball. |
|
|
Comments |
Cuttings are not easy. It is best to collect material from a young container grown tree, which you then behead. Use the terminal shoots which are rather spindly in appearance.

Seed Comments |
The nuts are henna to brown, and smooth. If you can not sow immediately, cool moist stratify for as short a time as possible. Collect seeds from a kauri forest if possible, as the seedlings are much superior. In Dunedin, one grower used a tunnel house to raise the soil temperature to 15-20C. When the first two leaves grew, he moved them outside, where they survived a frost and snow. Once you get the seedlings germinated, they are very tough.
