NZERN
New Zealand Ecological Restoration Network (NZERN) is
a non profit national conservation organisation. It is run by
volunteers from dozens of small conservation groups and its purpose
is to provide support services to aid public involvement in ecological
restoration and protection of NZ biodiversity. NZERN has no paid
staff. Its weekly staff hours are the equivalent of 4 full time
workers (FTE).
Office Hours
Normal hours are Monday to Thursday 9am -5pm. Friday
9am - 12noon. The office is also open at other times to enable
NZERN members to meet after they finish work and in the weekends
by arrangement. Each day starts with a brief staff meeting at
9am. The office is fully equipped. Tea and coffee are supplied.
Internships
NZERN has a limited number of internship vacancies available
for post graduate students. The internships are available year
round and priority is given to the most capable applicants. Interns
are fully responsible for their own costs and no salary or remuneration
is offered for internship positions. Interns are required to carry
comprehensive travel insurance with adequate cover for medical
and personal liability expenses for the duration of their assignments.
Assistance is provided with looking for accommodation and local
New Zealand culture.
Interns are encouraged
to take responsibility as their experience and skills develop.
Student Research
NZERN is able to host students undertaking a Masters
or PhD thesis that contributes to an NZERN project.
Short Term
Projects
NZERN has short term projects suitable for tertiary students
studying in New Zealand. Those projects are completed at university
or in the field.

NZERN is able to host fellowships working on an NZERN
project.

to improve their existing skills.
Volunteers
More New Zealand based volunteers are always welcome.
NZERN membership is required. Some volunteers work at the office
but most work using computers from home on various projects. NZERN
has 50 such volunteers from all parts of New Zealand and most
function as part of elected or appointed working committees.
