3. NOTICEBOARD
399. from Edith Jones of Southland...
Submissions, PLEASE!

Dear Friends,

Environment Canterbury’s Proposed Regional Pest Management Strategy (2003) has just been issued. It contains a provision that if adopted would requite land occupiers on Banks Peninsula (but not elsewhere) to eliminate gorse and broom from within a much larger boundary strip than has been required previously – i.e. 20M rather than 10M wide. (The requirement to eliminate small infestations everywhere else on a property remain as before.)

If the change in the boundary rule is adopted, it will make life almost impossible for Hinewai Reserve and for other conservation and regeneration projects on Banks Peninsula, just at the time when the push should be to make things easier.

Please would you have time and inclination to put in a submission on this – it is very important. Even one sentence opposing the Banks Peninsula boundary change (Sections 7.6.6(c) and 7.7.6 (c)) and asking that these sections be deleted would be very helpful. Submissions should be sent to :

Please include your name, address and signature.

Yours anxiously,
Hugh Wilson
