2003-34 Klez Virus Alert

21 August 2003 0:0 AM

Hi Folks

A Klez virus is circulating (yet again). Some of you may recieve email with a file attached with a name ending in ".pif"

All official NZERN mail uses a subject header like [NZERN] or [KERERU] etc.

The virus uses subject headers like "RE:Thank you!" or "That Movie"  or "Wicked Screensaver".

Delete these messages without opening them. They have not been sent by office@bush.org.nz

The virus is forging the "FROM" address in the message. Run an anti virus program on your computer.

Regards
Mike Peters

The following information has been supplied by Xtra.
-------------------------
An attachment called (WORM_SOBIG.F) in an email that appears to have been sent from your email address to (....) contained the virus (WORM_SOBIG.F), which has been deleted.

If you do not believe you were the actual sender, the Klez virus is likely to be the culprit. The Klez virus works by forging the 'From' address inside the virus infected email, which means you can receive a virus alert from Xtra even if you are not necessarily the actual sender.
