Bush Telly Trustees needed Keen trustees are needed for the television, radio & publishing arm of NZERN. Membership of NZERN is not required but a proven passion for conservation is. Do you have television or radio experience? Are you hooked on writing and publishing? Do you love using your camera to photograph natural areas? Do you know where to find money and sponsorship? Love teaching people? Can you run a 7 day a week operation to a tight schedule with high standards? The trust will be responsible for producing large amounts of practical information to help private land owners, Maori organisations and community groups protect, maintain and restore areas of native habitat. The trust will be producing training videos & documentaries, an Internet radio station, editing of material going onto the www.bush.org.nz website, The Bush Telegraph, Restoration Directories, Kereru & Kowhai, display material and pamphlets. The trust board will be meeting 4 - 6 times per year and there will be a lot of work involved outside of the meetings. There is also an existing pool of volunteer staff currently producing this information who are to become members of this trust. NZERN News 29/09/2002 Pipi Update A large 100Kg battery or "UPS" has arrived to protect Pipi from power surges and blackouts. The cost was $4162 which came from a grant from DoC's TFBIS fund. Thanks DoC!... 29/09/2002 Website The number of users of the NZERN website continue to grow. Last month 140,000 hits were recorded.... 29/09/2002 Restoration Day A Canterbury Restoration day was held at Riccarton Bush on Sunday Setember 29. 40 attended and enjoyed a morning tour led by Ranger John Moore thru the bush learning the lessons of its maintenance. There were displays and a BBQ at lunctime. In the afternoon Helen Braithwaite from DoC gave a talk about methods of weed control. Dave Hunter from Target Pest explained the use of traps and bait to control pests. Miles Giller of QEII talked about protection options available. Shelly Washington explained the services provided by the NZ Landcare Trust. The day was organised by Ryan Young. Thanks Ryan! Next years event will be held at Quail Island in late September.... 29/09/2002 Regional Rep Mike Peters has been nominated as NZERN Regional Rep for Christchurch City.
