3. NZERN NEWS
13/05/2007
Restoration Directory
The Restoration Directory is a telephone directory
style listing of groups, restoration sites and native plant nurseries
involved in ecological restoration, and has been published since 1999 as a
series of printed regional directories.
The directory is currently being
edited with several thousand new entries or revisions sent in from 2005 to
2007 by NZERN members. This is quite a task, because conflicting revisions
are often sent in from different people and so have to be checked again.
Previously, the Restoration Directory was edited and published once a year
and mailed out to all members. From June 2007, it will be published monthly
with the latest updates, and will be freely available from our website in
PDF format.
Draft versions dated October 2006 are available from
http://www.bush.org.nz/telly/restorationdirectory.html
These draft
versions DO NOT contain the latest revisions and have a number of format
errors, including showing the size of each restoration site in square meters
rather than hectares.
Over several months, new features will be added
including:
- regional maps with a numbered dot showing the locations of
restoration sites
- each restoration site to be able to have a picture or
map.
- agencies (with services available)
- paid yellow pages style
advertising at the back as a fundraiser.
More information on the planned
enhancements are contained in the Restoration Directory Publishing Standard
available from
http://www.bush.org.nz/telly/restorationdirectory.html
Denise Ford from Travis Wetland Trust is doing the computer programming
necessary to enable fully automated publishing.
Biofunds kindly provided
several years funding to help with the massive editing task.
