3. NOTICEBOARD
from
Frances Schmechel of Canterbury ...
Warm greetings to you all,
Notice
of AGM
You are invited to attend the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust
AGM, Friday, 8th of June at 10 am, Little River Service Centre.
Please note
there is a resolution to amend the Trust Deed at the end of this email for
consideration at the AGM.
Change of Banks Peninsula coordinator
This
will be the last email update you'll be receiving from me as the Banks
Peninsula coordinator. I have accepted a new position working as an
ecologist in a newly created position at Environment Canterbury beginning
Monday the 28th of May. It's been a real privilege to work with the Banks
Peninsula Conservation Trust and NZ Landcare Trust these last four years.
I'll be looking forward to supporting the BPCT in my new role as
opportunities arise.
A new coordinator will be advertised and appointed
over the next few months. The generic email address for the BP coordinator
is bpct@landcare.org.nz. Correspondence to this address will be re-directed
to the appropriate person until a new appointment is made.
Funding
The
government Biodiversity Advice Fund has very generously granted the NZ
Landcare Trust three years worth of funding towards the Banks Peninsula
coordinator position, which is quite exceptional and gratefully
acknowledged.
The Canterbury Community Trust has been very generous in
funding the projects officer position for another year - an essential
position for advancing our covenant projects. The Christchurch City Council
is also contributing significantly to the Trust's covenanting work with
annual grants over the next three years.
In addition to the above we
continue to receive outstanding support from a variety of sponsors,
supporters, funders, and donations on an ongoing basis - our many thanks to
them all. I'd like to offer a personal note of thanks to the NZ Landcare
Trust and staff for their ongoing and invaluable support for the coordinator
position, and to Anderson Lloyd Lawyers for their ongoing generous support
of the BPCT.
Our new website - we now have our very own, more
user-friendly website at www.bpct.org.nz.
Still seeking photos of Banks
Peninsula !
The BPCT is seeking scenic landscape photographs of Banks
Peninsula to use for our next card series. Photographs should capture the
essence of why you think Banks Peninsula is unique. Ideas include panoramic
views, open spaces, coastal scenes, native flora and fauna, people in action
and farming scenes. The five photos chosen will be used by the BPCT for our
fund raising cards with credit attributed to the photographers. Digital
photos are preferred. If selected for the use in the cards, digital photos
must be at least 300dpi and negatives provided for print photographs. Please
submit photos to Kristina Townsend. kristina.townsend@landcare.org.nz by
June 27.
New tui restoration coordinator
We have a new part-time
coordinator for the tui restoration project, Dr. Heidi Stevens, thanks to a
grant from the Josef Langer Trust. She will start working on this project
one day per week beginning in the next couple of weeks. Heidi is the Kaupapa
Kereru coordinator, and did her PhD work on tui in the Auckland area. We
welcome her on board.
Threatened plants of Banks Peninsula booklet
update - this publication which Nick Head, botanist for DOC generously
offered to produce for us, is still in the works. It is being expanded to
include Christchurch and will come out after the current review of the
status of threatened plants is completed, probably within the next few
months.
Do you have Fenn traps you are not using?
If you do and would
like to sell them or donate them to a community trapping project, please
contact David Blair, Email: dblairs@clear.net.nz Mobile: 027 4893 890,
Phone: (03) 472 7003, Postal: 46 Meridian Street, Port Chalmers, DUNEDIN
