Network Update - Spring 1999 Prior Publication Constitution The last issue reported the AGM's resolution to establish the NZ Ecological Restoration Network as an entity separate from the Addington Bush Society Inc. It has now been proposed that the Network's constitution could initially duplicate the present constitution except with the obvious changes needed to remove specific reference to Addington Bush reserve. The aims of the Network would be expressed in a general way such as "to foster community involvement in ecological restoration". This somewhat skeletal constitution would safeguard members' rights and ensure the Network could register as a charitable trust, while not prejudicing future directions for development. A founding AGM is likely to be held in February or March 2000. The date will be advertised in the Summer issue of the Bush Telegraph. It has been proposed that the founding AGM be asked to elect the Regional Representatives to serve as the committee for a year. After a year if this had proved satisfactory the constitution could be amended to specify the committee as consisting of the Regional Representatives. Comments about these proposals are welcome.
Database and Web site Forms are being added to the Web site for members to add or amend addresses and other details. Thanks to John Potter especially for developing this. The database itself continues to be refined. Member groups will eventually have direct
access to their data through the Web, without amendments having to be routed through the
NZERN Office as happens at present. Brian Ellison and Julian Cone of Landcare have been
helping with advice on how to carry this out. Nursery support The potting mix scheme is now operating on a limited scale in the Christchurch City Council and Lyttelton Harbour Basin areas. Work is continuing on improving the ordering process and creating promotional materials to support the scheme. When this has been done, a public launch will be held to promote the scheme to more groups and schools in the area. Funding has already been secured to support this expansion. Members have enquired about setting up similar schemes in other areas, and this is likely once the Christchurch/Lyttelton Harbour Basin scheme is fully established. Online ordering is also being investigated. Plant fact sheets A questionnaire will be trialled shortly. Thank you to the people who offered to complete one. Copies will be distributed as soon as any problems have been sorted out.

Order forms are available from your Regional Representative or from Tanya Jenkins (phone 03 332 0099) or Michelle Goodwin, (phone 03 000 0000).
