The Indigenous Ecosystems of Otautahi Christchurch - Sets 1, 2, 3 & 4

Author
Jeremy Heard (Lucas Associates)

Lucas Associates in collaboration with Landcare scientists, instigated by the Agenda 21 Forum have now completed SET4: The Port Hills, the fourth in the series of publicly available booklets that map the local native plant ecosystems for Christchurch.

By simply popping into your local C.C.C. Service Centre or the Parks or Waterways Units at C.C.C. Tuam St. you will be able to pick up a copy. Make sure the booklet covers the sector of Christchurch you live in, then look at the map inside and see which colour-coded and signatured ecosystem your street falls into. From here, flick over to the appropriate plant list, (similar colouring to the map) and see which native plants are special to your patch.

If you live on the Port Hills, 'SET4' is for you. This booklet doesn't have a map, instead there is a model with a key listing all the residential suburbs, broken down into the various ecosystems.

If you have an interest in land that is not within a 'built-up' area, you can look at the 3D model and determine your location based on slope, aspect, altitude (soil types are also listed for each ecosystem in each booklet).
