GROWING IN THE WIND - Canterbury Conservation Day

DATE: Sunday 14 April 2002

TIME: 10am-4pm

PLACE: Motukarara Nursery state highway 75.

DETAILS: The Department of Conservation is hosting its annual open day to celebrate the unique biodiversity of Canterbury's native plants and communities on Sunday 14 April. Held each year at Motukarara Nursery, state highway 75 to Akaroa, the day has a market atmosphere, with various organisations and community groups putting up stalls, displays and workshops. This year's theme is "Growing in the wind".

SPEAKERS: The keynote speaker this year is Ruud Kleinpaste - "the bugman" of Maggie Barry's Garden Show.

Guest speakers also include Colin Meurk and Matt McGlone of Landcare, will give talks on a range of topics such as how Canterbury's wind patterns influence native plant communities, insects, traditional kite making, and growing shelter-belts.
